A common High Court in the name of Gauhati High Court was established under the North-Eastern Areas (Reorganization) Act, 1971 for 05 North Eastern States namely Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Tripura and 02 Union Territories namely Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram. These union territories also attained their statehood by the enactments. A separate High Court in the name of High Court of Meghalaya has established for the State of Meghalaya under this act and other related laws Amendment Act, 2012 with effect from 23rd March 2013.
