Group A
UPSC recruits probationers selected through Engineering Service Exam, Civil Service Exam, and Combined Medical Service Examination. It has 10 organized Railway services namely Traffic/ Accounts Service, Personnel Service, Railway Protection Force, Railway Medical Service, etc. The minimum eligibility of this category is Graduation in any discipline, Degree in Engineering/ M.Sc or Degree in Medicine (MBBS).
Group B
There is no special examination conducted for the selection of group B officers. It provides an opportunity to group C officers to get a direct promotion. These posts are not recruited directly. Railway Recruitment Board (RRB’s) make appointments to group B service posts.
Group C
Group C is further divided into technical & non-technical areas. RRB hire non-technical staff through a competitive exam. Non-Technical staff undertakes duties like file management, ticket booking, collection, and accounts work. skilled job aspirants seeking Clerical Jobs, Supervisor Jobs, Junior Engineer Jobs, Section Engineer Jobs which also fall under technical cadre requires Diploma in Engineering/ B.Tech in a relevant trade to work under this category. For non-technical positions like Station Master, Ticket Collector, Commercial Apprentice, Traffic Apprentice one needs minimum graduation or diploma/ ITI in Transport & Management, Transport Economics, or relevant discipline.
Group D
Unskilled labor like Trackman, Helper, Gunmen, Store Keeper, Peon, Safaiwala fall under this category. For selection, the applicant must clear the written test. The minimum qualification is 10th for group D posts.
