SSC Stenographer Recruitment 2020 – The Staff Selection Commission has released a notification for recruiting Stenographer Grade C and D in the various Ministries and Departments of the Government of India and in Subordinate Offices. SSC Stenographer Exam Pattern, Eligibility and Syllabus

One of the most demanding Central Government jobs in India, SSC Stenographer enjoys a number of perks and benefits along with the handsome salary. Since the minimum eligibility to sit in this exam is 12th class pass. The minimum Educational Qualification required by a candidate is to be at least 12th pass from a recognized Board or University. Only those candidates who have the required skills in stenography are eligible to apply.

Nationality/ Citizenship:
A candidate must be either

A citizen of India or
A subject of Nepal or
A subject of Bhutan or
A Tibetan refugee who came over to India, before the 1st January 1962, with the intention of permanently settling in India or
A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (Formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India

Except for Citizen of India, the candidate belonging to other categories shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.

Age Limit:
(a) Stenographer Grade ‘C’: 18 to 30 years as on 01-08-2020 i.e. candidates born not before 02-08-1990 and not later than 01-08-2002 are eligible to apply.

(b) Stenographer Grade ‘D’: 18-27 years as on 01-08-2020 i.e. candidates born not before 02-08-1993 and not later than 01-08-2002 are eligible to apply.

SSC Stenographer Exam Pattern

Willing candidates who are looking forward to working as SSC Stenographer must have a clear idea about the SSC Stenographer Exam Pattern and SSC Stenographer Syllabus. Without proper knowledge of these two, you cannot plan your SSC Stenographer preparation. Here, we will provide you with all the information regarding SSC Stenographer Exam Pattern. Before discussing the detailed syllabus, let’s first look at the exam pattern.

The exam will take place on two levels – Computer Based exam and Skill Test. To know more about both these levels, the weightage of various topics, selection procedure and time duration, read this article.

A. COMPUTER BASED EXAM

Important Points:
1. Question paper will be of Objective Type Multiple Choice. Questions will be set in Hindi and English except for English Language and Comprehension.

2. There will be negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer. Candidates are, therefore, advised to keep this in mind while answering the question.

3. Marks scored by candidates in the Computer Based Examinations, if conducted in multiple shifts, will be normalized and such normalized scores will be used to determine final merit.

B. SKILL TEST

1. Candidates who obtain the qualifying marks in the Examination as may be prescribed by the Commission will be called for the Skill Test. Commission may also prescribe qualifying marks in each part of the Examination. The Skill Test will be of qualifying nature and the Commission will fix the qualifying standards in the Skill Test for different categories of candidates.

2. The candidates will have to appear for the Skill Test in Stenography. The candidates will be given one dictation for 10 minutes in English/ Hindi at the speed of 100 word per minute (w.p.m) for the post of Stenographer Grade ‘C’ and 80 w.p.m. for the post of Stenographer Grade ‘D’. The matter will have to be transcribed on the computer. The transcription time is as follows:

3. Candidates who opt to take the Stenography Test in Hindi will be required to learn English Stenography and vice versa after their appointment, failing which their probation may not be cleared by appointing departments. Candidates have to work as English/ Hindi stenographers as per the functional requirement of the User Office irrespective of the medium of Skill Test of the candidate during the examination.

4. The skill test will be held at the Commission’s Regional/ Sub Regional Offices or at other Centre(s) as may be decided by the Commission.

5. Detailed instructions regarding Skill Test will be sent by the concerned Regional/ Sub Regional Offices of the Commission to the candidates called for the Skill Test.

C. DOCUMENT VERIFICATION
Qualifying candidates are required to come for the document verification. Those who fail to do so will not be considered for any post at the time of final selection. Candidates will have to submit copies of various documents like Matriculation Certificate, educational qualification, caste certificate, relevant document, if any relaxation is taken, etc. Candidates will be required to produce all documents in original for verification at the time of document verification.
