Founded in 1984 by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, SAI is the highest national sports society developed with the aim of promotion of sports, games, and training. The prime responsibility of Sports Authority of India is talent scouting, maintaining sports infrastructure, enhancing performance with scientific evaluation system, training national teams and producing coaches in different disciplines of sports. SAI has 9 regional centres and 2 academic institutions, namely Laxmibai National College of Physical Education (LNCPE), Kerala and Netaji Subhash National Institute of Sports, Patiala.
