Set up in 1961 by GOI, National Council of Educational Research and Training is an autonomous body developed with an aim of consoling state & central govt. on policies and programmes for qualitative improvement in school education. Acting as the nodal agency, NCERT achieves its goals of Universalisation of Elementary Education, coordinates research in areas related to school education, prepare and publish model textbooks, supplementary material, newsletters, journals and develops educational kits.
