The common selection procedure for being an officer is through a written examination conducted by UPSC for entry into the permanent commission through CDSE, NDA and Indian Naval Academy cadet entry. The other entry schemes in case of permanent and short service are not subject to any written exam but only an interview conducted by SSB. For the recruitment as a sailor, a common recruitment process is followed for AA, SSR, MR & NMR. A written exam of objective type consisting of questions from English, Science, Maths and General Knowledge, will be taken. After these stages, the final merit list is prepared and the selected candidates are called for Final Enrollment Medical exam and those who clear this stage are entitled to the recruitment in the Indian Navy.
