Airport Authority of India came into existence on 1st April 1995, as an outcome of the merger of National Airports Authority and International Airports Authority of India. The merger brought organization named as Airport Authority of India which is responsible for the creation, up gradation, maintenance, and management of civil aviation infrastructure in India. AAI, a Mini Ratna public sector organization manages 126 airports including 11 International, 8 Customs, 86 Domestic and 29 Civil enclaves at defense Airfields. The Authority controls and manages the entire Indian space. To ensure the safety of aircraft operations the authority has ground installations at all airports.
