CSIR NET 2020 Exam, Pattern and Syllabus – Registration (Re-started) 2024-25

The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) has released the notification for Joint CSIR-UGC Test 2020 for the award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and for determining eligibility for appointment as Lectureship (LS)/ Assistant Professor in Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Ocean and Planetary Sciences, Earth, Atmospheric, Mathematical Sciences. As per the official notification, the online registration for the exam will begin on 22-08-2020 and willing candidates can apply till 10-09-2020 (05:00 P.M). The date of the exam will be updated soon.

CSIR – UGC NET 2020 Eligibility Criteria, Exam Pattern and Syllabus

After knowing the exam date you all might be thinking about the eligibility criteria for this exam. You might be wondering what would be the age limit for appearing in this paper? What is the required qualification? Candidates who wish to apply for CSIR NET 2020 must ensure that they fulfil the eligibility criteria given below.

Age Limit Criteria

  • For JRF (NET) there is an upper age limit of 28 years as on July 1, 2018.
  • Relaxation of 5 years in upper age limit will be given to SC/ ST/ PWD/ Female candidates and 3 years in case of OBC applicants.
  • There is no upper age limit for Lectureship (LS)/ Assistant Professor.

Educational Qualification
(i) M.Sc or equivalent degree/ Integrated BS-MS/ BS-4 years/ B.E/ B.Tech/ B.Pharma/ MBBS with at least 55% marks for General (UR)/ General-EWS and OBC candidates and 50% for SC/ ST, Persons with Disability (PwD) candidates.
(ii) Candidates enrolled for M.Sc or having completed 10+2+3 years of the above qualifying exam as on the last date of online application submission, are also eligible to apply under the Result Awaited (RA) Category.
(iii) B.Sc (Hons) or equivalent degree holders or students enrolled in Integrated MS-Ph.D Program are also eligible to apply.
(iv) Candidates possessing only Bachelor’s Degree are eligible to apply only for Junior Research Fellowship and not for Lecturership. They will be eligible for fellowship only after getting registered/ enrolled for Ph.D./ Integrated Ph.D. program within the validity period of two years.
(v) Ph.D degree holders who have passed Master’s degree prior to 19th September 1991 with at least 50% marks are eligible to apply for Lectureship/ Assistant Professor only.

CSIR – UGC NET 2020 Exam Pattern

Knowing about the pattern will help a candidate to prepare for the exam in a better way. The following article will enlighten a candidate with the marking scheme, paper pattern, total marks, no of questions to be asked and syllabus. This pen-paper based MCQ test will be held in two shifts morning (9:30 am to 12:30 noon) and evening (2:30 pm to 5:30 pm). CSIR-UGC NET Exam for science stream is conducted in areas namely Chemical Sciences, Earth Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, Life Sciences and Physical Sciences.

The MCQ test paper of each subject shall carry a maximum of 200 marks. The exam shall be for the duration of three hours. The Question Booklet for this test will be printed in Hindi & English Version. Negative marking for wrong answers, wherever required, shall be applicable. Candidates should use only black ballpoint pen and not pencil to fill in their particulars in the OMR Answer Sheet/Question Paper Booklet and to darken the appropriate circle to mark their answers in their OMR answer sheet.

The test will be divided into three parts A, B, C. Part “A” will be common to all the subjects, Part “B” shall contain subject-related MCQ covering the topics given in the syllabus, whereas, Part “C” shall contain higher value questions that may test the candidate’s knowledge of scientific concepts and/or application of the scientific concept. The distribution of question in each of these subjects is as follows:-

The Exam Scheme for Chemical Sciences has been revised from June 2017 onwards. Each question in Part A and B carries two marks weightage. However, each question in Part C carries four marks weightage. There will be negative marking of 25% marks for each question.

Each question in Part A carries two marks weightage. On the other hand, each question in Part B carries three marks weightage and C carries a weightage of 4.75 marks, respectively. There will be negative marking of 25% marks in Part A and B. However, there will be no negative marking for questions in Part C of the exam.

CSIR  – UGC NET 2020 Admit Card

Appearing candidates can download the admit card for the Joint UGC NET 2020 for the June exam through the official website of the council, by entering application form number and date of birth. CSIR NET admit card will contain details such as the name of the candidate, roll number, photograph, signature and date of the exam, time, centre name.

CSIR  – UGC NET 2020 Answer Key

Once the exam is conducted successfully, the CSIR may publish the Answer Key and Question Paper online. For checking the answer key, candidates need to visit the official website of CSIR then click on the Answer Key link and open the subject for which the answer key needs to be seen. The CSIR NET answer key will contain correct answers to all questions in the exam. Candidates can have a look at the answers and have an idea of the score that they are going to get.
