Union Public Service Commission has released the notification for the Combined Geo-Scientist Exam 2022. UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist Exam is conducted once a year, for recruiting male/ female/ transgender candidates. The Combined Geo-Scientist Examination will consist of three successive stages.

UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist Exam Eligibility, Exam Pattern and Syllabus

After knowing the exam date you all might be thinking about the eligibility criteria for this exam. You might be wondering what would be the age limit for appearing in this paper? What is the required qualification? Aspiring candidates who are going to apply for UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist 2022 can check the detailed eligibility criteria here.

Nationality/ Citizenship: A candidate must be unmarried and must either be
(i) a Citizen of India or
(ii) a subject of Bhutan or
(iii) a subject of Nepal or
(iv) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before the 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India or
(v) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka and East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethiopia or Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.
Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (ii), (iii), (iv) and (v) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.

Educational Qualification:- 
(i) For Geologist Group-A in Geological Survey of India:-
Master’s degree in Geological Science or Geology or Applied Geology or Geo-Exploration or Mineral Exploration or Engineering Geology or Marine Geology or Earth Science and Resource Management or Oceanography and Coastal Areas Studies or Petroleum Geosciences or Geochemistry from a University incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or an educational institution established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed university under section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956 (3 of 1956) i.e. recognized University.
(ii) For Geophysicist Group-A in Geological Survey of India and Scientist-B (Geophysics) Group-A in C.G.W.B:-
M.Sc. in Physics or Applied Physics or M.Sc. (Geophysics) or Integrated M.Sc. (Exploration Geophysics) or M.Sc (Applied Geophysics) or M.Sc. (Marine Geophysics) or M.Sc. (Tech.) (Applied Geophysics) from a University incorporated by an Act of Parliament or State Legislature in India or other educational institutes established by an Act of the Parliament or declared to be deemed universities under the University Grants Commission Act, 1956
(iii) For Chemist Group-A in Geological Survey of India and Scientist-B (Chemical) under C.G.W.B:-
M. Sc. in Chemistry or Applied Chemistry or Analytical Chemistry from a University incorporated by an Act of Parliament or State Legislature or other educational Institutes established by an Act of the Parliament or declared to be deemed Universities under section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956 i.e. recognized University.
(iv) For Scientist-B (Hydrogeology) Group-A in C.G.W.B:-
Master’s degree in Geology or Applied Geology or Marine Geology or Hydrogeology from a University incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other Educational Institutes established by an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as Universities under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956.

UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist 2022 Exam Pattern

Before starting preparation for the exam, you must understand and familiarize yourself with the latest UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist Exam pattern and syllabus. The Commission will conduct the exam in three stages namely Preliminary Examination, Main Examination or Personality Test/Interview. The detailed exam pattern is given below:-

Stage-I
Preliminary Examination:-
 The candidates will take the Preliminary examination which consists of two Objective Types (multiple choices) Questions Papers for each stream. The Question Papers will be set in English only.  There will be a penalty (Negative Marking) for wrong answers marked by a candidate in the objective type question papers.

Stage-III
Personality Test/Interview:-  Stage-III will consist of Personality Test/Interview carrying 200 Marks. In the Personality Test, the candidate will be interviewed by Board i.e. Interview Board (s) constituted by the Commission. The object of the interview will be to assess the suitability for the post(s) of Geologist, Geophysicist and Chemist and Scientist ‘B’ (Hydrogeology), Scientist ‘B’(Chemical) and Scientist ‘B’ (Geophysics). Special attention will be paid in the Personality Test to assessing the candidate’s capacity for leadership, initiative and intellectual curiosity, tact and other social qualities, mental and physical energy powers of practical application, the integrity of character and aptitude for adapting themselves to the field life.

UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist Admit Card

Appearing candidates can download the admit card for the UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist Exam 2021 through the UPSC Admit Cards Page by entering registration id/ roll number and date of birth. The commission will release admit cards for the exam in mid-January.
