The Staff Selection Commission conducts the Combined Graduate Level (CGL) Exam for recruitment to various services like Inspector of Income Tax, Sub-Inspectors in Central Bureau of Narcotics & CBI, Auditor Offices under C&AG, CGDA & others, Tax Assistant in CBDT and CBIC, Assistant Section Officer in Central Secretariat Service, Intelligence Bureau, Ministry of Railway, Ministry of External Affairs, AFHQ, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Assistant Enforcement Officer in Directorate of Enforcement, Department of Revenue, and many more.

SSC CGL Exam Pattern 2021

The SSC CGL 2021 Exam will be conducted in four tiers, Tier-I (Computer Based Examination), Tier-II (Computer Based Examination), Tier-III (Pen and Paper Mode) (Descriptive Paper) and Tier-IV (Computer Proficiency Test/ Data Entry Skill Test (wherever applicable). Scheme of Tier-I Examination

Tier-I will consist of 100 objective type multiple choice questions of 200 marks and the exam will be computer-based. In order to crack this exam, it is important for you to know the detailed syllabus and exam pattern.

In Tier-I, there will be a negative marking of 0.50 for each wrong answer. It is true that knowing about the pattern will help a candidate to prepare for the exam in a better way. Scheme of Tier-II Examination

In Tier-II, there will be four papers and the time duration for each paper is 2 hours. Tier-II will consist of Objective Type, Multiple choice questions. The questions will be set both in English & Hindi except for English Comprehension in Tier-I and Paper-II in Tier-II.

In Tier-II, there will be a negative marking of 0.25 for each wrong answer in Paper-II (English Language and Comprehension) and of 0.50 marks for each wrong answer in Paper-I, Paper-III and Paper-IV.

In Tier-II, Paper-I and Paper-II are compulsory for all the posts. In Tier-II, Paper-III will be for only those candidates who apply for the posts of Junior Statistical Officer (JSO) in the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation and Statistical Investigator Grade-II in the office of Registrar General of India (M/o Home Affairs) and who are shortlisted in Tier-I for these Posts.

In Tier-II, Paper-IV will be for only those candidates who are shortlisted in Tier-I for Paper-IV i.e. for the posts of Assistant Audit Officer/ Assistant Accounts Officer.

Scheme of Tier-III Examination

The Paper in Tier-III will have to be written either in Hindi or in English. Part paper written in Hindi and Part in English will be awarded zero marks.

In Tier-III, candidates must write their correct Roll Number at the prescribed places on the cover page of the Answer Book. Candidates must not write any personal identity inside the Answer Book.

Tier-IV (Skill Test)

In Tier-IV, Computer Proficiency Test (CPT) and Data Entry Speed Test (DEST) will be conducted.

Data Entry Speed Test (DEST): For the posts of Tax Assistant in CBIC, Tax Assistant in CBDT, and UDC/ SSA in Central Bureau of Narcotics: Data Entry Speed Test (DEST) at 8,000 (eight thousand) Key Depression per hour on Computer. The “Data Entry Speed Test” Skill Test will be conducted for a passage of about 2000 (two thousand) key depressions for a duration of 15 (fifteen) minutes. This test will be of qualifying nature.

Computer Proficiency Test (CPT): The Commission will hold Computer Proficiency Test (CPT), comprising of three modules: (i) Word Processing, (ii) Spread Sheet and (iii) Generation of Slides, for the posts of Assistant Section Officer in CSS, MEA & AFHQ, Assistant in Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Assistant (GSI) in the Ministry of Mines, Inspector (CGST &Central Excise), Inspector (Preventive Officer) & Inspector (Examiner) in CBIC and Assistant in National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT). The duration of each module will be 15 minutes. These modules will be conducted one after the other.

Document Verification (DV)

All the candidates who are qualified in CGL TIER 1, TIER 2, and descriptive Paper (TIER 3) will have to go into Document Verification and DEST/CPT test. Below is the list of documents you need to carry while going for the document verification process in the SSC CGL exam.

i) In case of marriage of women: Photocopy of Husband’s passport showing names of spouses or an attested copy of the marriage certificate issued by the Registrar of Marriage or an Affidavit from husband and wife along with a joint photograph duly sworn before the Oath Commissioner.

ii) In case of re-marriage of women: Divorce Deed/ Death Certificate as the case may be in respect of the first spouse; and photocopy of present husband’s passport showing names of spouse or an attested copy of marriage certificate issued by the Registrar of Marriage or an Affidavit from the husband and wife along with the joint photograph duly sworn before the Oath Commissioner.

iii) In case of divorce of women: Certified copy of Divorce Decree and Deed Poll/ Affidavit duly sworn before the Oath Commissioner.

iv) In other circumstances for change of name for both male and female: Deed Poll/ Affidavit duly sworn before the Oath Commissioner and paper cuttings of two leading daily newspapers in original (One daily newspaper should be of the area of applicant’s permanent and present address or nearby area) and Gazette Notification.

10.Any other document specified in the Admission Certificate for DV.

SSC CGL Eligibility
